Interval Wars

You and your students will have a blast with this competitive interval recognition game! Inspired by the traditional card game of War, but adaptable for varying levels of competitiveness, students will get plenty of practice with recognizing, naming, and playing intervals from a second to an octave, both on the staff and on the keyboard. Simply take out the cards with intervals you haven't introduced your student to yet, set those aside, and let the fun and learning begin!

1 cover card, 28 keyboard cards, and 28 staff cards (14 harmonic intervals and 14 melodic intervals)

GAME INSTRUCTIONS:
- OPTION 1 - Select the cards with the intervals your student is not ready to practice yet and set those aside. Shuffle the remaining cards and divide them equally between the two players. Each player will keep their decks face down and flip over the top card. Each player names their interval and the player with the larger interval gets to keep both cards. If you name your interval incorrectly, you have to play the interval in three different places on the piano. Whoever has the most cards at the end wins.

-OPTION 2 - Select the cards with the intervals your student is not ready to practice yet and set those aside. Shuffle the remaining cards and divide them equally between the two players. Each player will keep their decks face down and flip over the top card. One player calls out an interval, and then each player takes turns quickly laying down their cards until that interval's card is laid down. Whichever player smacks the card and calls it first gets to keep it and all the cards under it. If you smack the wrong interval card, you have to play that interval card in three different places on the piano and give three of your cards to the other player. Whoever has the most cards at the end wins.

OPTION 3 - The possibilities are endless, so get creative and make your own rules!
